Can I update my own web pages?
You can learn to update your own web site if you like. You will need to do one of two things: either purchase specialized web authoring software or learn to write HTML code. It is helpful to also have image manipulation software. You will need access to the internet and the ability to navigate server folders either in the server's file manager or through FTP. The CReative Zone can help you get set up to do this if you need any assistance.

What are the most important things to consider when designing a web site?
Usability and function. The pages need to download quickly, the navigation must be simple, your ideas presented in a straightforward manner. If you have flash but no substance, your viewers will know it. If the site is too vague or complex, visitors will quickly leave. Some glitz must be sacrificed so that your message is heard. But there are exceptions to this rule, depending on your audience and goals.

How long does it take to build a site?
That depends on how large it is and how quickly we can get to your ideal design. We may go through several prototypes before you see the one you like. If you're in a hurry to get online, I can design a home page in a fairly short time, adding more later. In most cases, it's best to get the bulk of the site done before going live.
-
What should I provide to help in the process?
You may give us anything at all that you'd like to see on your site. Photographs, sketches, layout mockups, brochures, business cards, literature... anything that could be a part of your presentation. You can take as active a role as you'd like in the process. I can design wholly from scratch with just a few ideas, or I can build on what you have prepared.

If I have pictures or written material for the site, does it have to be in a specific format?
Not necessarily. You may submit it almost any way you like. You can give me your material on a disk, in an e-mail, or on paper. Files can be submitted in any format, although certain layouts may not be preserved. I have several graphic software packages, and can redesign or reformat your material. Photographs may be print as well as digital (I can scan the prints).

Why do web sites cost what they do?
There's a lot more than meets the eye. First of all, there is all that expensive software that requires specialized skills to use. Also there's the continuing education to keep up with technological changes. Continued research into web trends and the competition. Testing across browsers, platforms, monitors and machines. Continued development of skills in the arts, business and technology. In short, The CReative Zone is a professional company using many skills to develop a product that works.

What's involved in selling on the internet?
Ecommerce is more complicated than other non-transactional setups. There are other entities involved – namely banks and transaction processing media. There are databases which may need to be integrated with the web site. It requires a greater level of security and involvement. But the rewards can also be great. If this is what your business needs, we can help get you started.
